Know who you are. Know where you’re going.
“Dream big!”
“Catch your dreams!”
“Be anything you want!”
These phrases were splashed across billboards and boldly proclaimed in public service announcements assuring me in four words or less a bright future was in my reach. My excitement quickly vanished when I remembered how empty I felt the last time I was suckered into believing these messages were for me. No capability seemed to exist inside me to make big dreams come true.
What holds me back?
I was a confident carefree teenager on the outside who had a full tank of hope and belief this big dreamy future would come true. A scared little girl lived on the inside with a regular habit of struggling to find a full life. She would rise up in my serious moments when planning my future and making important decisions when I needed to know who I was and where I was going. I had all the desire to experience the promise of an abundant life without any ability to make it happen.
This four-part phrase sums up how my dreams turned into reality
Believe God
Tame your fear
Know who you are
Grab your life

Isaiah 42:16
I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, And crooked places straight. These things I will do for them, And not forsake them.

Beth has a Christian based background as a child with spirituality woven throughout her life. She believes there is no comparison to the miracles, happy surprises and blessings in her life when she asked God to direct her compared to those times when she led the way on her own. Beth has often said, “I am not a lucky person. I never have been. I can only explain that God collaborates from a heart of love on my behalf.” She also believes God looks out for her and blesses her because He cares for all creation. “I can decide to spend time with Him. I can make a point to get to know Him better. I give God the credit for the goodness in my life. I make a point to talk to him every day even if it’s for a minute.”

Beth believes we all need to see ourselves and know who we are with greater clarity. Believing God is for you and not against you comes through developing a relationship with Him. He tells us to live courageously, have faith and love others. These characteristics should be for any civil minded society. So yes, these concepts provide us with values to live by each day. Beth knows her growth has not been achieved on her own. She chose to believe God was not against her. She acknowledges Jesus saves her from her sin which means she lives in freedom without any guilt or putting herself down. God’s Spirit, the Holy Spirit provides inner peace and guidance. It all sounds kind of weird until you decide to start an exercise in faith, begin a conversation with God, and experience it for yourself.
